Miss Laura Jones, Community Governor
As a former pupil of Usk Primary School, I relish this chance to be a part of a Governing Body of a school that gave me so much.
I have always been a strong supporter of our school, personally and politically. As a former Assembly Member for South East Wales, i visited the school on many occasions to show support at events, to talk to the pupils in Assembly and to try and help the school by giving advice.
Now, as a Community Councillor for the Llanbadoc ward, i would like to have the opportunity to ensure the interests of parents further afield than central Usk are met, as well as those within our town.
I have a 3 year old son Henry, who I hope will come to Usk Primary himself shortly. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Usk Primary. I would be one hundred percent committed to a team that would help ensure that he and all other future pupils, as well as those there currently, get as much out of the school as i did.
I run a Facebook Page 'Monmouthshire Mummies & Mini People', so am in regular contact with local parents and am acutely aware of their wants and needs. I have also run many large and successful events for children.
I have run a small business of my own. I am an Ambassador for GirlGuiding Uk, and I am also a Tennis coach for children up to the age of 5 years old.
I am currently in the middle of a project with Llanbadoc Community Council, where our school so kindly helped out, to help me re-vamp our local Bus Stops by means of mosaic. The children of Usk School, our local nurseries and our area were asked to send in designs to go on the walls of the Bus Stops, thus offering them a chance to leave a lasting legacy in our town.
I do believe that I could add great value to the Board, through my knowledge and experience, given my political background, through my love of the school, of working with children and for our area.
I already know, and have good working relationships with, many people who work for the school.
