Mrs Sian Worsely, Vice Chair of Governors
I am married with two children, my youngest child is currently in Year 5, while my older daughter attends King Henry VIII Comprehensive School in Abergavenny. My family and I relocated to Usk in 2011 and very quickly became involved with the local community.
Having been involved in schools in both the Primary and Secondary Sector for over 20 years I am able to understand the Education System and all its complexities including the needs of pupils, parents and staff. I regularly volunteer at the school and my duties vary according to the requirements of the staff and pupils. This year I have taken on the role of Editor of the School Newspaper as well as writing school updates for the Usk and Raglan Diary.
My role has developed and increased over the last 3 years and has become a very important part of my life. Whilst being a Governor I have attended training and am constantly amazed at the rate of change within the Education System in Wales. I have collated and continually update the Governing Body Self Evaluation. This has become a useful tool in directing the Governing Body to address areas that will help not only the Governing Body, but also feeds directly into the School Improvement Plan. During my time as Vice Chair I have learned the delicate balance of being a “Critical Friend”. As Governors our role is to ask the challenging questions but it is also to support the staff in their work to maintain and improve standards at the school. I will endeavour to continue to develop both skills during the remainder of my term.
