  • School Tours - October 2022

    Mon 26 Sep 2022

We are well aware that many of you have not stepped inside the school for a number of years due to the restrictions that were in place during the pandemic. As previously communicated on the annual calendar for the year we will be hosting two school tours this term for existing parents and carers.
The school tours will enable you to see our school on a ‘normal working school day’.
If you would like to join one of the tours please indicate on linked form - https://forms.office.com/r/t9GKE8RKFK by 10am on Friday 30th September.
If numbers exceed those we are able to accommodate during the school day we will let you know and offer additional dates.

  • RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) Workshop for Parents and Carers

    Mon 26 Sep 2022

We want all children to grow up healthy, happy, safe, and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain. That is why, from September 2022, all primary age children across Wales will receive Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE).

This curriculum area has been designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life. The world for all young people looks very different from the way it did when the curriculum was last updated – the changes bring the content into the 21st century, so that it is relevant for your child.

Usk CiW Primary School have flexibility to deliver the content in a way that is age and developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs and religious background of our children and our community.

The important lessons you teach your child about healthy relationships, looking after themselves and staying safe, are respected and valued under our new curriculum. Teaching at school will complement and reinforce the lessons you teach your child as they grow up, all in a developmentally and age appropriate way.

You can no longer withdraw your child from RSE because it is important that all children receive this content, covering topics such as friendships, how to stay safe and the changes that will happen to them as they grow up.

If you would like to know more or have any queries about the content of the RSE curriculum at Usk, or resources to be used, please come along to our RSE Curriculum Workshop, hosted by school senior leaders, Miss Storey (Health & Wellbeing Area of Learning Leader) and Sally Amos (Healthy Schools Practitioner, Monmouthshire County Council) on Tuesday 4th October at 9.15am in the school hall.  Please note that this workshop is only open to parents and carers of children that attend Usk CiW Primary School.

After the meeting we will post on our website the presentation and materials shared for anybody who is unable to join us.

We firmly believe that parents and carers are the most important educators of young people in personal issues and hope that you will welcome the support that school can offer to supplement your work at home.

  • Can you help?

    Thu 15 Sep 2022

Here at Usk CiW Primary we can’t wait to welcome our families back through the doors of our school. It's been too long since we were able to fully embrace all that our school community has to offer.
Your children benefit greatly from visitors sharing real life, purposeful authentic experiences and these opportunities support children’s development so that they become ethically informed citizens of the future.

This half term’s whole school theme for learning is ‘Embrace the Difference’. This could be in terms of heritage, culture, religion and within local, national, and international contexts.

Do you have stories, experiences, artifacts that you could share with our children linked to our theme? Please email your contact details to the office (uskcvprimary@monmouthshire.gov.uk), for the attention of Mrs Roberts, with a brief message of the opportunity or experience you could offer.

  • School closure for the state funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth

    Thu 15 Sep 2022

As we mourn the passing of the Queen as a nation, I am writing to confirm that Usk Church in Wales Primary School will be closed for an additional bank holiday on Monday 19th September. This is in accordance with the advice from Welsh Government, and is both a mark of respect for the passing of Her Majesty, and to give families and staff the opportunity to witness the historic state funeral on television.

  • Ice Cream Friday

    Wed 15 Jun 2022

With the weather heating up the PTFA are going to sell ice cream / ice pops after school on a Friday. The ice creams / pops will cost 50p each and will be available on the front playground for 30 minutes at the end of the school day.
They will only be able to accept cash & if you can have the right money it would be most convenient.
If we are going to make this a regular event we will need volunteers. The more people helping will mean that the queues are shorter too!!
This is a really easy and fun sale to get involved in and we need your support to be able to continue the PTFA and the great events that your children enjoy.
All money raised will go towards enhancing life at the school for your children and is so vital to continue to be able to provide a well resourced and inspiring learning environment.
We can’t think of a better way to be “Cool after School”!

  • Holy Communion Consent

    Sun 08 May 2022

Ascension Day is a very important festival in the Church’s year and this year takes place on Thursday 26th May. To mark Ascension Day we will hold our first school Eucharist since the outbreak of Covid.

The Eucharist is a service at which Christian people remember Jesus using bread and wine. The service will be led by Reverend Sally.

If your child has been baptised / christened or confirmed in church and are over the age of 5, they are able to take Holy Communion (bread and wine) with your consent.

If you would like to give permission for your child to receive communion please complete the linked form by Monday 23rd May – https://forms.office.com/r/CGRsb9FCDH .

Our half termly Eucharist services have always been very meaningful and memorable occasions within our school calendar and we’re so pleased to be able to begin these again with Reverend Sally.

  • Class Photo Day

    Sun 08 May 2022

We have a photographer coming in to school on Tuesday 10th May to take class photos.
A collective photo of all of Year 6 will also be taken.
Please can children wear school uniform to school on the day and bring their kits to change in to if they have a PE lesson or after school sports clubs.
Summer dresses and shorts with polo t-shirts for Reception to Year 2, and a shirt and tie for Years 3 to 6, are all fine to wear.
We would like to see all of Year 3 to 6 not wearing a summer dress in a school tie please.
Once the photographs have been taken, your child will bring home a proof photo for you to view the images and information about how to make an order if you wish to do so.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in ensuring the high standards that are expected regarding school uniform.
